Sachse Construction was hired to oversee the complete buildout of Gucci at the Mall of San Juan in Puerto Rico. The project team managed every aspect of the store from the millwork and carpentry to the installation of high-end finishes. A concrete team from the United States was flown in to complete the flooring around the marble carpet, giving it a glossy and pristine look throughout the store. One major challenge the team overcame was the Puerto Rico power outage that last two days, impacting 3.5 million people. During that time, the mall was closed, which ceased work. In order to compensate for the lost time, the team worked weekends and were able to successfully keep the project’s completion date on track. The team also encountered the logistical challenges of custom materials with long lead times, including the marble carpeting shipped in from Italy. When the original marble carpet arrived, the measurements were not correct, and the carpeting needed to be sent back. In order to accommodate this unforeseen delay, the team rearranged their schedules to prevent lost time. Once the carpet arrived, it completed the store’s overall aesthetic and gave it a European essence. Staying true to Gucci’s representation of high-quality products, the project team completed the store with the absolute highest standards of craftsmanship. The Gucci store opened in San Juan in October 2016, and successfully reflected Gucci’s high-end brand.
