Sachse Construction was hired as the construction manager to oversee renovations to the historic Detroit Athletic Club landmark which began in the fourth quarter of 2013. The scope of work was a part of the club’s master plan to enhance the DAC experience by blending the renowned traditional amenities with modern, upscale gathering spaces.
The first phase of the DAC experience consisted of renovating the North Pavilion which overlooks Tigers Stadium. Construction began in late 2013, and consisted of developing a new concrete patio with site utilities and ornate perimeter fencing. Additionally, accent lighting and exposed aggregate paving were installed between the parking structure and clubhouse.
The second phase included a new glass vestibule at the Randolph Entrance, enclosing the historic canopy and creating a new gathering place for the members. A new circular driveway, heated walkway, and porte cochere are new features in the revised siteplan. Additionally, the construction of the new lobby, Madison café, and pro shop promote a sense of community and comradery to members.
Sachse Construction completed the final phase of construction in September of 2015. The last phase consisted of a new seventh floor rooftop to the building, which includes the “Last Word”, a cigar lounge, and the “Stadium Club” overlooking Comerica Park. The new seventh floor also includes two state-of-the-art meeting rooms, a full kitchen, and a wraparound terrace with stone pavers and glass railing. These additions, along with the renovations to the lobby, the new Madison café and pro shop, pavilion, Randolph entrance, and glass vestibule will continue to enhance the DAC experience for the next 100 years.
